Abelia  X grandiflora

Abelias are shrubs found on hillsides and open woodlands from the Himalayas to East Asia and in Mexico. The clusters of tubular flowers are borne on the current year’s growth in summer and autumn. In many species the floral parts remain showy after the flowering period.

Noteworthy CharacteristicsDeciduous and evergreen shrubs grown for pleasing foliage with an opposite leaf arrangement and for a long blooming period. Place in a sunny or partially shaded border.

CareProvide fertile, well-drained soil, and sun to part shade. Shelter from wind. Prune minimally.

PropagationRoot cuttings in early or late summer.

ProblemsAnthracnose, leaf spots, powdery mildew, fungal root rots.
