Garden Photo of the Day

Happy 3rd Birthday to the GPOD!!

This gardener has to haul every bit of gardening materials THROUGH HER HOUSE.

Today marks the 3rd birthday of the Garden Photo of the Day! We started back on January 4th, 2010–more than 770 post ago. Whew! The difference between now and then is that back then this was MY blog, but now it’s YOUR blog! I’ve had such a blast featuring your gardens over the past couple of years, and I’m hoping we can keep it going for several more years.

The garden of one of everyone’s favorite daily commenters! (meander1).

A few interesting facts: we’ve featured gardens in 43 U.S. states (still missing AK, HI, AZ, NM, SD, AR, & MS), 4 Canadian provinces, and 18 total countries/continents, including Iran, Spain, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Rwanda, Hungary, Ecuador, Germany, Antarctica, India, Sweden, Antigua, Slovakia, and Romania.

My garden! –I figure I beg you for photos of YOUR gardens, so I should have the guts to show you MY garden…

Keeping a daily blog going has been way more work than I anticipated, but super rewarding. You guys are all so nice and helpful. Keep it up, and send me more photos!! That is the key.

More from my garden.

As a birthday gift to the GPOD, do me a favor and send the GPOD to a bunch of your friends who might not know about it, and convince them to SIGN UP. The more subscribers I have, the more time I get to spend on the blog, and the cooler it gets.

I got to visit one of my readers!

To celebrate this day, let’s take a look back at some of my personal favorite posts, though I could go on and on. You guys are amazing gardeners! Sincere thanks for sharing the results of your labors.

The before and after here is CRAZY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!

An amazing garden tended by a stroke-survivor.
Monster trees begone!
So soothing and cool….
Imagine creating and maintaining a gardenlike this from a wheelchair! So inspiring.
Don’t use your swimming pool much? Turn it into a garden!
A garden out of a fairy tale, and one of our favorites.

What a wonderful retrospective, Michelle. I love getting up each morning to enjoy another beautiful garden with my coffee. Almost always there's a new plant/structure/combination for my wish list.

Happy Blogoversary ( or some such spelling)! Sincerest thanks to you, Michelle and Fine Gardening for creating this common interest community. And what a fun pictorial trip down memory lane to commemorate 3 years running. I love the one constant that runs through each day's offering...the love of gardening no matter what form it takes or challenges it faces. A person's garden can be small and intimate or grand and glorious but it is always a reflection of that urge within us that keeps us playing in the dirt.

Congratulations GPOD and a big THANK YOU Michelle for your work on this blog. It's the first thing I look for each weekday morning! Can't wait to get back home this afternoon and meander through these gardens.

Speaking of.....Meander1 ....I took a peak at your garden, your oak leaf hydrangeas are beautiful and I love your butterfly tree. Can't wait to take the tour again.

Wow, its Garden All-Star, Hall of Fame day!

Michelle, I love the theme that you display for all these gardens--its the design, not just the pretty plants that makes the difference.

Happy "Birthday," GPOD and Michelle. Thanks for brightening each morning, especially in snowy January, with photos of dreams and possibilities. And thanks to everyone who has--or will--share his or her garden with all of us. I plan to send photos this year, although my garden isn't as elaborate as some others. Still, it has kept me smiling and happy, playing in the dirt for 37 years now!

  12. JuleMG 01/04/2013

Thanks for all you do, Michelle. It sure does brighten my day. I will feature GPOD soon in my weekly gardening column in our local newspaper. The circulation isn't huge, but I imagine you will get a few more fans.

Hi Michelle and all the regular responders. This is my first comment. I love this daily blog and look forward to the beautiful photos, the stories about the gardeners and their gardens, and your appreciative and helpful comments. Sometimes I use a particularly seasonal photo for my screen saver at work, although have been using a daughter's photo of a nearby springtime flower market in Paris for several months now. If I knew how to add the photo I would, but may be beyond my capabilities. Thank you for this bright spot in the day and three years of friendly garden sharing.

It's hard to believe that GPOD is 3 years old... what a delightful gift you have provided for all of us Michelle. GPOD not only gives us a glimpse of gardens all over the world, but also the opportunity to 'meet' amazing gardeners. You certainly came up with one heck of an idea! Thank you Michelle and Fine Gardening.

  19. Wife_Mother_Gardener 01/04/2013

Congrats on three years, Michelle! It is nice that GPOD has become a place for private gardens to come to light. That stream garden is just stunning!

  20. passwords 01/04/2013

Congratulations. Can't begin to tell you how much looking at these beautiful gardens lights up my day! These gardens make an especially cold, winter day brighter not to mention my yearning for Spring so I can start digging!

Hi Michelle, Almost every weekday evening this blog is my highly anticipated after dinner "treat". I'm never disappointed with the gardens you bring into our homes, always something to delight and inspire the inner gardener. Thanks for your 3 years of service!

I'm checking in late because I've been fighting the flu, too. Hope you feel better than I do Tractor1.( gorgeous winter sky photo, by the way) I was not vaccinated. I can't tell you how much I enjoy this blog and all the gardens and people associated with it. It is the only blog I participate in. Michelle and all the people at Fine Gardening do such a wonderful job. Thank you for all your hard work. I will do my part to try to spread the word about this great website. I hope it continues indefinitely; it is the highlight of my day.

    Happy birthday! Time flies...
I have been reading this great site silently and with pleasure since Michelle developed it.
Congratulations to all of you devoted artistic gardeners and to Michelle the blog creator.
Considering that I am trying to have a garden among a multitude of deer I hope that by the ideas I acquire here, I will be able to emulate some of your knowledge in the future.
    Thanks to all.
