‘Hewitt’s Double’ Yunnan meadow rue

Thalictrum delavayi 'Hewitt's Double'

thah-LIK-trum del-ah-VAY-eye Audio

This cultivar has some of the showiest flowers of the meadow rues. From mid-summer to early autumn, it bears tight, pompom-like clusters of lilac-mauve sepals atop wiry, purple tinted stems and delicately textured foliage. Plant toward the back of a border; it may require staking.

Noteworthy CharacteristicsThis Thalictrum is native to stream banks, shaded mountains, and moist meadows throughout Eastern Tibet and Western China. It does well as a backdrop or see-through plant in a mixed border and responds to the slightest breeze. It is suitable for a wild garden or woodland garden.

CareProvide moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade. Most Thalictrum are late to emerge in mid- to late spring. May require staking.

PropagationSow seed in a cold frame when fresh; divide as new growth appears in spring.

ProblemsPowdery mildew, rust, white smut, leaf spots, slugs.
