I like the dwarf variety of red barberry but I do not see them listed here! It makes a nice bush, about 3 ft high and diameter. The dwarf barberry does not need pruned to keep its shape. There are two kinds, the regular red and the red/pink variegated variety. Plant them in full sun or where they get sun for most of the day to get the best red color. If you plant them in too much shade, they stay green and do not grow well. Don't plant too close to walkways as they are thorny, but they look great at the edge of a group of rhododendrons and azaleas.
