The Midas touch

Here’s an exciting scene from a garden in Oakland, California. I love how the gold pedestal really makes this corner of the garden pop. The trunks of the bananas are like columns in a room, and the the burgundy leaves of the loropetalum are their perfect companion. The huge leaves of the rice-paper plant (Tetrapanax papyrifer, USDA Hardiness Zones 6-11) add to the tropicalismo feel of this space.

Are you sure you weren't in a jungle somewhere? I keep waiting for Tarzan and Jane to walk by.
