On Friday, when I mentioned that I’ll be heading back up to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in the fall, Kathy Fink (we featured her garden a few days ago, HERE) emailed me to suggest visiting one of her favorite places to escape to in Maine, which just happens to be run by some keen gardeners. She sent some photos, and we thought it might be nice to share, for any of you who make gardens a focus when traveling.

Kathy says, “These photos were taken in fall at Bufflehead Cove Inn in Kennebunk, Maine, right on the Kennebunk River. Although Dock Square is within walking distance down a well-maintained dirt road, the Inn has a tucked away feeling. The river “breathes” through the tide cycle with ducks active at low tide and the occasional seal popping up.

The owners maintain a landscape and gardens that enhance the spectacular setting without ever competing with it. Their love of gardens and flowers is brought inside with lovely arrangements and paintings of plants and vines on the walls in some rooms. This is one of the most tranquil and restorative places I know. The Inn used to be the family home of the owners’, and indeed they are sharing their personal labor of love with their lucky guests.”
I think I may just have to splurge and make a detour. Thanks, Kathy!

Although most of these photos were taken in the fall, one or two were taken in June as you can see from the one with the Irises.
Beautiful pictures, beautiful setting...yes, Michelle, you must at least treat yourself to a walkabout on this lovely property even if you can't fit in an overnight stay.
Hello everyone. I unplugged from the computer and TV the last couple of weeks, but what great photos to come back to. I can smell the smell of damp leaves and the autumn forest in that last photo. It sure is hard to compete with the raw beauty of mother nature.
A place I could fall in love with! OH wait - I already did - lol Beautiful! Would love to visit some day - what a peaceful looking area.
I don't think that's a destination where one visits, that's a destination where one remains. I see someone reserved those Adirondack chairs for me, thank you.
These beautiful, peaceful, relaxing and cooling pictures are so welcomed as our Southern California area remains in the grips of a heatwave. Daily temps of 110 degrees in Santa Clarita with nights barely cooling off. Oh I want to go to the Inn and never leave!
