I discovered these awesome containers while touring a garden in Michigan several years ago. Sure, the plantings are nice, but what really makes these containers awesome is the towers, made simply of four tall bamboo stakes and some raffia. Try imagining the containers without them. Not quite so cool, huh? Even without vines, the tuteurs would make a great statement, and they brought the containers into scale with their surroundings–a large pool adjacent to a lake-side mansion.

My first years gardening when my budget was particularly tight I discovered the joys of the basic bamboo stake. I use them everywhere - right now one from last season is a faux tree for the birds by one of my birdfeeders. To see them in such an elegant setting as reminds me that fancy and expensive isn't always better.

uh oh. this is going to be my first negative comment on FGPOD. I think what's inspiring about these pieces are the form and use of bamboo. But my color sensors are freaking out- the visual equivalent of the aural torment of fingernails on a blackboard.True red and bluey pink- are dreadful together. Get those red geraniums Outta there!
    best,

Love the concept, and this is one I'll have to try to get some architectural shapes in my beds. However the color selection of the red geraniums with the pinkish petunias are a bit off, but everyone has different tastes. I am SO ready for Spring, esp with today's blizzard of '11 pressing in now.
    Thanks for the great photo!

From my perspective, the structure of the tuteurs give balance to the evergreens in the background. I like it!
