Fall in Sally’s garden in Maryland

Photo/Illustration: Courtesy of Sally Barker

Today’s photos are from Sally Barker in Baltimore, Maryland. We’ve visited Sally’s garden twice before (HERE and HERE), but this is our first look at her garden in fall.

Sally says, “Here are some photos of our garden in early through late fall taken over a few years. The Japanese maples are glorious now, not only for color but also for their structure. So many perennials are still lovely: sedums, euphorbias, carex, variegated solomon’s seal, epimedium, hardy geraniums.

“Hydrangeas are hanging in and the bark on the crepe myrtle is beginning to stand out. Fall clean-up is still waiting for me — maybe it will get done, maybe not. When we get an early snowfall the curved beds create their own design interest which happily lasts through the winter! I hope you enjoy these.”

Gorgeous, Sally.

Sally, your garden is a vision of exquisite loveliness...from the graceful curves of the beds to the enchanting lines of the Japanese maples...everything is truly perfection. I will probably return to this set of pictures multiple times throughout the day and just click through to my heart's content.

Your garden is lovely, shown to perfection with your stunning photography. The light is perfect. It is hard to express the effect, dreamy, impressionistic, romantic...

Foggy Fall days ~ the stillness is breathtaking. This has to be one of my favoite gardens Sally. The first snowfall punctuates the gardens design. It always thrills me and gently takes us into the next season of garden-interest.

    Sally,

What wonderful pictures of a beautiful garden. A long way from a backyard skate board area. I love every part of it. Thanks for sharing.

Sally, your garden is exquisite and so multi-faceted, your pictures are wonderful but your garden really needs to be enjoyed in person. Thank you so much.

Sally, your garden is stunning. I could go on for hours, but the end result would be the same. There aren't enough words to describe the overall effect of what you have done. The color, texture, design, etc. are mesmerizing. Thanks for sharing.......

Newt is home! He's kind of comatose from his surgery and meds but the vet says he's fine, and he looks good from what I can see of him, he's in a small carrier with towels and covered with a big towel. The carrier door is open and he has a brand new litter pan nearby. The Vet said he already ate this morning and not to feed him for a few hours, they don't want him throwing up. He's in the small bedroom with the door closed, only Jilly is very is very interested, she's sort of the mommy cat, she cared for Peach and Blackie from since they were one day old. The Vet said Newt should have a week to recuperate before introducing the five. The Vet already called to find out how Newt is doing. I'd much rather be treated by a Vet than a people doctor... today's MDs are not nearly so caring as they were years ago when they still made house calls... when I was ten years old doctors came to the house and charged $4, and medical insurance wasn't invented yet, poor people paid when they could.

Sally -- You have done it again. This is the prettiest garden I have ever seen on these pages.

Thank you all for the very kind responses ! When gardening is your passion it is great fun to get positive feedback ! I really love sharing plants and do so with neighbors all the time. And, when asked, I am eager to help them expand front landscapes beyond the "foundation" plants. I paint (literally) broader, deeper beds to accommodate layers of trees, shrubs and perennials and, after they at first gasp, the result usually pleases. Sally

Sally. I wish I was your neighbor. :) your garden is my dream garden. Lush and beautiful as well as exquisite. I love the large beds and trees and the stone work. I'm living in Nevada after moving from Washington state and trying to create a garden to feed my soul. Your garden has given me much inspiration. I love your rock work...it has been the motivating direction for my own back yard many times.
Thank you so very much for sharing your talents with us.
