OK, so I hope you’ll all forgive the interruption in our normal routine of new garden photos, but I wanted to take today to show you what I’ve been working on for the past couple of days–the GPOD Pinterest page!
If you’re not familiar with Pinterest, their website sums it up best: “Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and share their favorite recipes.”
I’ve had a personal Pinterest page for a while now, where I collect recipes, home decorating ideas, craft and sewing project ideas, and kooky scifi illustrations (my secret weakness…), but it occurred to me that Pinterest would be the perfect platform to categorize the last two years’ worth of GPOD posts in one central place. I combed through more than 800 photos and separated them into 24 categories like Seating Areas, Garden Sheds and Retreats, Pretty Pathways, Fantastic Formality, and more. It turned out even more gorgeous than I could have imagined, and it literally makes my heart beat faster…
You don’t need to have a Pinterest page or account to explore the boards. Just go over there and have fun! I guarantee you’ll find some things you haven’t seen before, and perhaps get reacquainted with some of your favorite posts from the past. Enjoy!

Michelle, this is a wonderful way to meander back through all our lovely gardens and a great search/index style, so much better than a simple text list. Great job!!
Love it! Im going to do it too!
Brilliant ~ what a fun way to spend your week. Congrats! I will be referring to this frequently ;)
It is a great way to scan through information and find just the picture from last year that was an inspiration. The winter page really intrigued me - however interestingly the formal page is what really drew me in. Thank you for sharing your contemporary, artistic skills with us!!
That was a real treat. Obviously, I loved the pictures but I also enjoyed seeing how you labeled the categories. Thanks so much, Michelle, for putting it together and bringing it to our attention. Do you have a time table in mind for updating it or will it be for that rare occasion when you have something called "free time"?
This is so cool! Thanks!
Categorizing all the pictures had to be a lot of work, I really appreciate it. I too like to browse old entries sometimes but found it too difficult to doggie-paddle my way through a list of days. I also like the way you can get to the original GPOD blog entry by clicking on a picture. It's amazing how connected our pictures, and our gardens, can be today. Ain't internet grand? Thank you, Michelle.
My daughter just introduced me to Pinterest and I love it too. What a fun way to browse ideas. Thank you. Avis
Brilliant idea. You've found a way to unleash the huge value hidden inside the Reader Photo concept. This is an incredibly useful resource. Thank you so much for taking the time to organize the images like this.
Thanks for all that work...I will use it often! You do a great job--Great way to start my designing day!
OMGsh!!! Thanks so much for putting these pictures on Pinterest! I have become addicted to Pinterest. It is my crack on the computer. Now I can pin all the garden ideas on my gardening board and go right to them for inspiration instead of hunting all over the net to find them again. So many times I see something on your Photo of the Day and think, "I want my yard to look like that" but then can't find it again to show my husband. You have just made my day. THANKS!!
Michelle's GPOD Pinterest page is gorgeous! If you're on the site and you have some extra time...check out Fine Gardening's Pinterest page:
Its got some great information compiled from Finegardening.com and vegetablegardener.com!
I am on Pinterest as well but havent figures out all it's nooks and crannies. My friend will send me something she "found" on there and wants me to go look and I can never ever find it - lol I need more practice I guess. Beautiful photos and lost and lots of work. Thank you for all you do for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for this - love Pinterest but always thought they were weak in the gardening area. No more! Great addition to a wonderful website.
Michelle - Kudos on your creativity and a GIANT HUG of thanks for the time & effort you spent! This is my first experience with Pinterest - you've opened the door for me, yippee! I know I speak for many with heartfelt appreciation to you for leading us through the beauty and creativity of the gardening world!
Thanks for all the thanks, guys! It was so much fun making that Pinterest page. I've added a new board--Awesome Stuff From Other Pinners. Lots of great stuff from beyond the GPOD! Oh man, Pinterest is soooo addictive.... Must. Drag. Myself. Away.
I plan on updating the Pinterest boards every 2 to 3 weeks. Yes, "free time" is sort of an elusive and mysterious thing here at FG...we wouldn't have it any other way, though!
WOW! Looks like Michelle did a lot of work. I clicked on the Help page and Pininterest seems complicated/involved, at least to me... I'll have to study this. Thank you, Michelle, for all your effort.
Michelle ... You are gem ~ thank you so much for putting your ideas on Pinterest. I love gardening and I love Pinterest and I love Fine Gardening magazine ~ You've made my day ~ woot woot woot !!!
Just found this site. WOW! I'm going to become addicted to ths Pinterest page! It gives me so many good ideas for the spring. And so much fun to look at when I can't be outside due to MI weather this time of year. JTitus . . . what's a gardening board? And how do you pin these pics on it?
