Garden Photo of the Day

BEHOLD! The GPOD Pinterest Page!

OK, so I hope you’ll all forgive the interruption in our normal routine of new garden photos, but I wanted to take today to show you what I’ve been working on for the past couple of days–the GPOD Pinterest page!

Here is what one of the boards looks like–there are 23 additional boards to explore!

If you’re not familiar with Pinterest, their website sums it up best: “Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and share their favorite recipes.”

Here is what one of the boards looks like–there are 23 additional boards to explore!

I’ve had a personal Pinterest page for a while now, where I collect recipes, home decorating ideas, craft and sewing project ideas, and kooky scifi illustrations (my secret weakness…), but it occurred to me that Pinterest would be the perfect platform to categorize the last two years’ worth of GPOD posts in one central place. I combed through more than 800 photos and separated them into 24 categories like Seating Areas, Garden Sheds and Retreats, Pretty Pathways, Fantastic Formality, and more. It turned out even more gorgeous than I could have imagined, and it literally makes my heart beat faster…

You don’t need to have a Pinterest page or account to explore the boards. Just go over there and have fun! I guarantee you’ll find some things you haven’t seen before, and perhaps get reacquainted with some of your favorite posts from the past. Enjoy!

Michelle, this is a wonderful way to meander back through all our lovely gardens and a great search/index style, so much better than a simple text list. Great job!!

It is a great way to scan through information and find just the picture from last year that was an inspiration. The winter page really intrigued me - however interestingly the formal page is what really drew me in. Thank you for sharing your contemporary, artistic skills with us!!

That was a real treat. Obviously, I loved the pictures but I also enjoyed seeing how you labeled the categories. Thanks so much, Michelle, for putting it together and bringing it to our attention. Do you have a time table in mind for updating it or will it be for that rare occasion when you have something called "free time"?

    This is so cool! Thanks!

Categorizing all the pictures had to be a lot of work, I really appreciate it. I too like to browse old entries sometimes but found it too difficult to doggie-paddle my way through a list of days. I also like the way you can get to the original GPOD blog entry by clicking on a picture. It's amazing how connected our pictures, and our gardens, can be today. Ain't internet grand? Thank you, Michelle.

Brilliant idea. You've found a way to unleash the huge value hidden inside the Reader Photo concept. This is an incredibly useful resource. Thank you so much for taking the time to organize the images like this.

OMGsh!!! Thanks so much for putting these pictures on Pinterest! I have become addicted to Pinterest. It is my crack on the computer. Now I can pin all the garden ideas on my gardening board and go right to them for inspiration instead of hunting all over the net to find them again. So many times I see something on your Photo of the Day and think, "I want my yard to look like that" but then can't find it again to show my husband. You have just made my day. THANKS!!

Michelle - Kudos on your creativity and a GIANT HUG of thanks for the time & effort you spent! This is my first experience with Pinterest - you've opened the door for me, yippee! I know I speak for many with heartfelt appreciation to you for leading us through the beauty and creativity of the gardening world!

Thanks for all the thanks, guys! It was so much fun making that Pinterest page. I've added a new board--Awesome Stuff From Other Pinners. Lots of great stuff from beyond the GPOD! Oh man, Pinterest is soooo addictive.... Must. Drag. Myself. Away.

I plan on updating the Pinterest boards every 2 to 3 weeks. Yes, "free time" is sort of an elusive and mysterious thing here at FG...we wouldn't have it any other way, though!

WOW! Looks like Michelle did a lot of work. I clicked on the Help page and Pininterest seems complicated/involved, at least to me... I'll have to study this. Thank you, Michelle, for all your effort.
