Garden Photo of the Day

The far side of Niagara Falls, in August

Photo/Illustration: All photos courtesy of Midge Sandlin

Happy Monday, GPODers, only 10 more days ’til Turkey Day! Today’s photos are from Midge Sandlin in Bluffton, South Carolina, but they aren’t of her garden.

She says, “These photos were taken on a trip to Niagara Falls this past August. The hidden garden is on the Canadian side where there are acres of gorgeous plantings in very formal layouts. This area appealed to me the most since it is not formal.”

Wow! I’m not sure I knew there were such nice garden at Niagara Falls, Midge! I think I need to plan a trip….. I’d love to see photos of other parts of the garden, if you have them. Thanks for sharing! **I found a website, but there aren’t many photos…***

**** The push is still on–get outside and take some last minute shots, or compile a few you took earlier in the season. I’ll be eternally grateful…. Email them to [email protected]. Thanks! ****

I had no idea there was a garden near the Falls. I too would love to see this. The pond/ stream with the gold fish really caught my eye. Would like to see more. Thanks for sharing.

I was there in this park taking lots of pictures in August as well! But I guess that I missed the pond and some of the informal gardens. Most of my pictures capture the formal gardens. This garden is located across from the Hard Rock Cafe and it has great views of the falls. If any of you want to visit, the best and easiest way is to park at the Duty Free shop as you leave Canada and take the stairs from the parking lot directly into the gardens.

Really nice garden - sometimes "hidden" has the best gems

I have seen only the extensive formal gardens, so nice to see this informal setting. The spray from the Falls create such a lovely moist environment, all the gardens appear so happy (and the constant work of gardeners and irrigation systems of course). Thanks for sharing the informal gardens. Lovely.

Go know there are such gorgeous gardens at Niagra Falls... I've been to the falls many times but never saw these gardens. Thank you, Midge.

Thanks Midge, for photographing these 'hidden' gardens. They're so serene. And that stone bridge! Lovely.

Midge, I too would love to see more! I was only to Niagara Falls once, unfortunately on a business trip, and I never saw these gardens. They are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Midge! It is always interesting to see a place through someone else's eyes. Love your choices of scenes!

I hope that those GPODers who were in the path of the latest damaging storms are OK. My thoughts are with you.
