Sprekelia formosissima

Sprekelia is a bulbous perennial from the rocky slopes of Mexico and Guatemala with strap-shaped leaves and large, showy, bright red flowers with 6 tepals. The flowers are sometimes marked with yellow. This tropical can be grown in a sunny border or in a temperate greenhouse.

CareGrow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. Plant in the fall by burying the bulb up to its "shoulders." Indoors, grow in full light and water moderately when in growth. Keep almost dry when dormant.
