Forcing Amaryllis Bulbs

DrPulte_Moderator | Posted in Southeast Gardening on

Who has experience with getting Amaryllis bulbs to re-bloom?  I still have many potted up from last year.  I know I need to nudge them into dormancy by withholding water.  Who in our region has done this?

I know the common advice: they need to be exposed to cool temperatures for a period. You need to force your plants into dormancy by placing them in a cool (45 to 55°F), dark location. With the bulbs resting for approximately eight to twelve weeks. However, I've heard from some they do not do this and they still get blooms?
