A metal chair without a seat is a perfect opportunity to make a creative statement in a garden. Give it a vivid coat of paint, build a simple planter box to fit the frame, and plant it up with interesting succulents, like Barbara Weirich did in her Benton Harbor, Michigan, garden.

Welcome to the Fine Gardening GARDEN PHOTO OF THE DAY blog! Every weekday we post a new photo of a great garden, a spectacular plant, a stunning plant combination, or any number of other subjects. Think of it as your morning jolt of green.

Sign up to get new posts delivered to your inbox each morning so you’ll always remember to take a look, or subscribe to our RSS feed. We look forward to sharing our garden travels with you.

If you think you have a photo that we should share on the Garden Photo of the day, email us. Send hi-res images to [email protected] with GPOD in the subject line. We’ll only respond if we plan to use your photo.

The whole setting is lovely, but I'm with Paula...I adore the rusted steel sculpture!

The garden is beautiful and the steel sculpture steals the show. The chair is nicely planted but maybe needs a different location in the beautiful garden.

Love that brown grassy thing. Like IT from the Addams Family!

Love the whole thing. What is that brown thing like "IT" in the Adams family?

I like the eclectic style of the whole garden with the chair being the star. What a fun idea and I like the color of the chair with the plants on the "seat". I am inspired. thanks

American Orchid Society Botanical Garden (Delray Beach, FL) has one of Bromeliads, Orchids, and Ferns that everyone should check out as well.
