Botanical Name: Viburnum carlesii vy-BURN-um kar-LESS-ee-eye Common Name: Koreanspice viburnum Genus: Viburnum
This deciduous shrub with toothed, dark green leaves bears pink buds in late spring that open to white or pink-flushed flowers borne in domed clusters. The intoxicating fragrance is reminiscent of spice cake. The plant also has attractive red foliage and berries in the fall. It grows to about 6 feet tall and wide.
 Noteworthy characteristics: Delicious fragrance, good fall color, attractive berries.
 Care: Provide moist but well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Shelter from cold, drying winds.
 Propagation: Take greenwood cuttings in summer.
 Problems: Viburnum beetle, gray mold (Botrytis), rust, downy mildew, powdery mildew, wood rot, Verticillium wilt, leaf spots, and dieback. Aphids, scale insects, weevils, Japanese beetles, mealybugs, and tree hoppers.
