ar-tem-EE-zsah Common Name: Mugwort, Sagebrush, Wormwood
Artemisia are grown for their silvery-green foliage and for their aromatic, culinary, and medicinal properties. They have alternate, sometimes deeply divided, grey or silver leaves. Flowers are not showy. These plants are a good choice for rock gardens and other sunny, dry landscape sites.
Noteworthy characteristics: The silver foliage is an excellent foil to bright colors, pastels, and dark foliage.
Care: Grow in well-drained, fertile soil, in full sun. Most species will die in overly moist soil (exception is A. lactiflora). Most species take hard pruning, which will help keep plants compact.
Propagation: Sow seed in containers in spring or autumn. Root greenwood cuttings of side shoots in summer.
Problems: White rust, downy mildew, powdery mildew, and a variety of leaf and stem fungal diseases are common.

Artemisia absinthium is a woody perennial with finely cut, silvery-gray, aromatic foliage. Its small yellow flowers have little ornamental value.
