I want to improve the landscape around my home to make it more fire safe. Can anyone suggest some fire-wise shrubs for full sun that I might consider for my garden?

This can depend a bit on what part of the Southwest you are in. Succulents like sedum and delosperma are adapted to most areas, and larger specimens like aloe and agave add height and texture in milder areas. Deciduous leafy shrubs that are not resinous, such as lilacs, do not readily ignite. For fire-prone areas like https://www.finegardening.com/article/firewise-gardening-in-southern-california SoCal or forested https://www.finegardening.com/article/firewise-plants-for-the-mountain-west mountain communities there are plenty of more specific resources available.
