This summer, treat yourself to an inspiring garden experienceand visit a spectacular garden near you. Most of us haven’t the means or the expertise to achieve such grandeur, but we can draw inspiration from these extraordinary settings.

Each year since 1995, the Garden Conservancy has opened distinguished private gardens to the public through its Open Days program. This season, the program continues until early November, and Fine Gardening is pleased to give away 8 prize packages. The packages will include 6 tickets and an Open Days directory. Each individual ticket is good for one visit to any of the private gardens, which are located all over the United States.

How to enter

For a chance to win a prize package, select a garden you’d like to visit and post a comment here by May 1 telling us why you’d like to see that particular garden and what you hope to learn. Winners will be selected at random shortly after that date and notified by email.

I would love to tour the Garden of Bill & Charlene Tuttle in Lake Oswago OR. I'm new to vegetable gardening and would enjoy seeing their large garden and fruit trees. Also I love hydrandgas and would be inspired by seeing their collection.

A group of us carpool together every year to the various Open Garden days. We're looking forward to several tour days in the North Bay area of S.F. and are especially excited to see Jana Olson's canyon garden and Richard Ostreiches's garden collection. Both people have traveled extensively and have beautiful collections of sculptural art work in the garden as well as unique plants culled from special local plant sales.

The Marin County tour also has us all quite excited and we're planning a garden picnic at one of the parks in between gardens.

There is a wealth of private gardens in the North Bay area that have never been opened. It would be fantastic if the GC could tap into some of these homes and gardens.

We would like to visit Evans Road in Erie, PA, so we can get some ideas about making our garden a little more beautiful, especially with native plants.

I would love to visit the Peconic Land Trust Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton, NY. I am an advanced master gardener and especially love herbs. I have my own kitchen garden and feel that a visit to Bridgehampton would give me inspiration and ideas for my garden.

I know that the climate in NY is very similar to Michigan, so a visit to that area would be the most beneficial to me.

Cooking and gardening are both my passion. It would be wonderful to have the opportunity to tour the area for a weekend.

I would like to see Hummer Haven in Illinios! I LOVE Hummingbirds in my garden, I am looking forward to their arrival any day now after tracking their migration on the internet map. I'm always interested in seeing gardens designed to attract Hummingbirds. :)
