Garden Photo of the Day

Photos from New Delhi

Apparently, being a floramantic is contageous. Just ask Ankita Signh from New Delhi.

"I'm located in New Delhi, India. I have a balcony and my pots are my garden. These pictures are a part of my collection of Flowering plants. I'm a #Floramaniac!"

Spectacular and unusual flowers, and great photography Ankita. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! The pictures are taken on my iPad! If the light is right, iPhones and iPads do a brilliant job :-)

The color choices of your flowers speak the international language of bright, happy and smile producing.

    1. user-7008037 04/25/2016

Thank you! Most of these plants are native to the tropical region and tend to produce very brightly coloured blooms :-)

So pretty Ankita! Can you tell us what flower is in the first photo? It looks like a dianthus, but I'm not sure...

    1. user-7008037 04/25/2016

It is! I have three Dianthus plants, One White, one Magenta and one White and Magenta :)

Your third picture took my breath away. Thank you.

Thank you! I'll tell you a secret, that's my favourite plant. I fell in love with the sublime sky blue colour and just had to have it :-)

  5. Quiltingmamma 04/25/2016

Lovely and bright. Thanks. Is that rose Double Delight? My favourite, but I tend to be sentimental - my departed mother's favourite as well. Scent and beauty - double delights.

    1. user-7008037 04/25/2016

Hey QuiltingMamma, it IS a Double Delight indeed. I'm sure your mum blesses you every time you see those roses and think of her :-)

Beautiful photos! What IS that 3rd plant! Love it!

    1. user-7008037 04/25/2016

It's called "Plumbago". It's a hot weather shrub, so turned out to be very suitable for hot Delhi weather. However, despite being so pretty and such a prolific bloomer, it isn't very popular in India. No idea why.

Ankita, I really love it when people manage to grow plants wherever they're located. You have an amazing variety in your balcony garden. Great photos, too.

Thanks Linda! I'm the daughter of a Professor of agriculture who's also an accomplished gardener! My dad is my troubleshooter. And I keep asking him for fixes I can't find on Google :D

You've certainly packed a lot of flower power on your Balcony. Looks great!

      Thank you very much, Tim!

You don't need a large garden to enjoy the beauty and wonderful fragrance that these flowers bring into your life. Thank you for sharing your collection, Ankita!

    1. user-7008037 04/25/2016

I'm very pleased that you enjoyed these pictures, GrannyMay! I have many more but was limited by the requirement of 5-8 pictures :D

The beauty of gardening is that the opportunities to be surrounded by flowers and foliage is almost limitless... all that's needed is a little space and light. Your balcony must give you so much joy, Ankita, when you step through the doors and are surrounded by beautiful and fragrant blooms.

    1. user-7008037 04/25/2016

True words, Sheila! The blooms, the pests, the compost, the earthworms and the lush green foliage are all my own; and there is no greater pleasure than working hard at something and see it reciprocate the love.

      1. Sheila_Schultz 04/25/2016

The smell and touch of the earth is so satisfying... lucky you to have it on your balcony. Your neighbors must be so appreciative.

        1. user-7008037 04/27/2016

They are! And very helpful as well when I'm out of town :-) They water my plants when I am not around :-)
