These herbaceous perennials exhibit flowers reminiscent of roses, the plant family to which they belong.  Flowers in shades of cream, yellow, orange, and pink with frothy stamens appear early in the season and, in many species, rebloom throughout the summer. Some are perfect for the border's edge, others, for the rock garden. G. triflorum is native to North America.
Noteworthy characteristics: Persistent, rose-like flowers on compact plants.
Care: Most prefer fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Some show drought tolerance.
Propagation: Divide in spring or fall. Sow seed in a cold frame in fall.

This evergreen perenial grows to 4 to 16 inches tall and 12 to 24 inches wide and blooms from late spring to fall (with deadheading) with double flowers in shades of apricot and buttery yellow.

This prairie native bears nodding, pinkish-maroon flowers in spring, followed by seed heads that resemble wisps of cotton candy and connote the plant's common name. The upright, ferny foliage is beautiful, and can be evergreen in mild climates.
