Today’s combo, also by Mindy Arbo, combines two very different evergreens with the dark, dusky foliage of a popular perennial. It includes ‘Yellow Ribbon’ arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis ‘Yellow Ribbon’, USDA Hardiness Zones 2-7), ‘Snow’ Sawara cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Snow’, Zones 4-8), and ‘Chocolate’ eupatorium (Eupatorium rugosum ‘Chocolate’, Zones 4-8). I bet this combo really pops whent he eupatorium is displaying its dainty white flowers!

Mindy Arbo, who gardens at the Cotton-Arbo retum, her private-turned-public garden in Winchester, Massachusetts, is a master at mixing evergreens with herbaceous plants. This week we’re highlighting five of her awesome combos.

If you can’t make it to the Cotton-Arbo retum in person, you can visit them online here.
