Terminology question

AG_NC_z7b_goNative | Posted in Southeast Gardening on

I came across the following statement in the description for a variety of New England Aster on a retail site, but I don’t know what “lodging” means in this context.  Can someone explain?

“We have observed no lodging in our trials, a phenomenal achievement for fall blooming Asters.”

It seems to be another term for flopping or stem breakage. New England Asters are prone to falling and flopping, so that’s my best guess. Here’s the term ‘lodging’ used in an article on grains. Makes some sense in the context of New England Aster, which doesn’t generally respond well to nitrogen rich soil. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/vgen/plants-affected-by-lodging.htm
