The handsome foliage and tall, airy inflorescenses of plants in the genus Crambe  make them definitive textural elements in the garden. 

Noteworthy CharacteristicsThe species are notable in stature and for their large leaves and profusions of tiny white flowers. C. maritima (sea kale) is cultivated as a vegetable also. They tend to survive winters beyond Zone 6.

CarePrefers fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, but will tolerate poorer soils in partial shade. Crambe are susceptible to rot in moist soils, and may be short-lived.

PropagationSow seed in a cold frame in spring or fall.
