Hi,
I have been gardening in my present location for 7 years now. Hope to finish my years here so I do tend to go a little crazy with planting. As long as I can remember I have had a interest in nature and making things pretty.Mom spends Feb. thru May with us so I planted mostly spring blooming trees, bushes, bulbs, you name it. Zone 8 gardener.

Red-cockaded woodpecker

A clan of 5 Red-cockaded woodpeckers visit our gardens foraging on the long-leaf and loblolly pines. They are endangered with some 3000 or so colonies existing.

Best friend Lenny

Lenny is the best garden helper. When the hose gets a kink I'll yell "Lenny get the knot". She comes running and puts her nose under the kink until her whole body is under the hose. Kink is gone ...

Re: Protect your garden from Hurricane Irene

We have weathered many hurricanes in coastal North Carolina and I suggest that rather than group your containers, the large ones, lay them on their side. Most hurricanes are not ground huggers. This one I do not know if it is a ground hugger or not, yet. Through experience my containers have weathered the storms much better laying on their side. Wishing the best for all in Irene's path.

Re: A grand mid-summer display

Shasta daisies with oriental and asiatic lilies would be a nice addition.

Re: Garden shed

Love the tropical flair. I also grow tropicals and sub-tropicals. Certainly ricky business with our cold winters lately. Coastal NC is were I reside also. My husband is a Marine, retired. Nice to see another garden on this site from my local. : ) Good job ncgardener!

Re: Barkley by the waterfall

Now that's a pretty picture.

Re: Up, Up and Away!

Ziva gives new meaning to Tree Bark. Very nice photos dandy_lion.

Re: Beautiful bark

I have for a long time wanted to grow this pine. I am NC coastal zone 8. I love the camouflage on its trunk. My husband served our country for 30 plus years USMC retired. And I would love to gift him with this in our garden. There is only one way to find out if it will grow here and that is to trial it. Wish me luck.

Re: Bittersweet Winter

Now that is a beautiful picture.

Re: Win a copy of Designer Plant Combinations!

Only six plants? Wow! This book could be pocketbook therapy for me. Or I would have to have one-hundred and fifty of each. Sounds like a nice addiction to my library.

Re: Old skylight becomes a water feature

WOW! That is a beautiful garden. My husband also built a box to cover an old cast iron bathtub we filled with Louisiana Iris. Will try to find a photo to post. Also love your color choice it blends nicely with the garden.

Re: Neuche goes fishing

Looks absolutly beautiful. What a great color combo.

Re: Chilly Dog

Very nice picture. Does he come with mustard, relish and onions?

Re: Duffy - My Best Friend

What a beautiful photo of Duffy. It almost looks like a painting. The friendship we share with our dog is unmatched also.

Re: Gardening Resolutions for 2009

1. I will try to keep the house as tidy as the garden.

2. I will plant more waterwise gardens. The droughts are killing me and the plants.

3. I will learn more about propagation, pronounciation and relaxation.

Re: The Worst Plant Tag Ever

Hilarious! I want a burgandy plant do you think the green plant people can help me?

Re: Does this make me a bad gardener?

I agree. In my coastal plains garden zone 8, it is a slow down period. It is raining and here I am at the computer.
