Pond-side view

You can probably see why this is our favorite place to sit.  In addition to the fish pond, the gardens surrounding it are full and change from week to week.

Meditative serenity

A spot for meditating in the Japanese garden.  A small cement bench and Budha are also in this garden, which completes the garden theme.

Woodland retreat

This woodland retreat offers a place for a picnic as well as a playhouse for the grandkids.  It's cool and quiet, where only the sound of birds is heard.  It also overlooks this hillside...

Among the goats (beard, that is)

This is a cool place to sit with a glass of iced tea at the end of the day.  It's situated under a small dogwood tree, with goat's beard in the background.  It overlooks a large circular...

Blood red

This combination is made up of blood grass, bright red coleus, and chartreuse sweet potatoe vine.  It's next to a waterfall where there are more vines, but the eye always comes back to the red.

Burgandy Beauty

We love the shade of burgandy in this Japanese maple tree against the gray color of our house, with the skirt of colorful azaleas at her feet.  The azaleas were recently added, so were...

Now you 'see-dum'

This is a combination of sedums in my rock garden.  I love the combination of leaf colors as well as the flowers.  I am hoping that the light pink one opens fully before the red one...

Sky Blue Pink

This combination of pink and blue blended so nicely together for a subtle 'sky blue pink' effect. The pink in the center of the bachelor's buttons is the exact pink of the coral bells that...

Bold and Beautiful

We have a lot of shade in our yard, so it isn't often that we can get something as bold and beautiful as this combination.  This is a bright hot pink single blossom peony paired up with the...

Pretty in Pink

Pretty in Pink is a combination of pinks consisting of creeping phlox and Olga Mezit PJM which surround our fish pond for late spring beauty.  It is a very welcoming sight for an early season...

For the Red, White & Blue

Around the end of July, we had a patriotic display of red, white and blue along a path that borders our waterfall.  We have red bee balm, white shasta daisies, and a blue hydrangea.  It...

Tiny Beauty

This grouping is made up of several tiny flowering perennials, which all bloom at the same time, with a variety of colors.  We have crested iris, white epimedium, lungwort, and...

Nature's Bouquet

Using only native plants, this bouquet was created with Queen Anne's Lace as the focal point.  I added Golden Rod and Black Eyed Susans for contrast, as well as a native fern in...

Simply a-maizing!

This is the brightest daylily in our garden.  It's name is "Look", and I think it demands a second look, don't you?

American Beauty

Oh, the beauty of our famous "red, white and blue". It may not be the 4th of July, but these colors will always ring true.

Rock garden structure

My rock garden is made of up small whimsical vignettes, which I call The Neighborhood.    There are several little houses, some 'shops', and this is what I call the outdoor...

The Tractor Shed!

Believe it or not, this is our tractor shed.    When we got a new tractor that was too big to fit into the garage, we had to get it 'a home of its own'.  Of course, that just gave...

Cool shady haven

Because we maintain gardens that encompass two acres. we never have time to sit in our gazebo.  We call it our most expensive garden structure, but we enjoy decorating it...

An Eagle Has Landed

This is a very realistic garden structure that catches everyone's eye as they enter our park-like yard.  He was coming in for a landing,  and now perches nicely above a grove of...

Can you see any?

This garden structure is a group of 3 raccoons standing on each other's shoulders.  We have them positioned so that they are overlooking the fish pond.  Anyone can see that they are clearly...

Not for the birds!

This unusual garden structure was created when one of our trees began to die from the inside out.  The squirrels were living in it before we cut it down.  We then saved the top and found...

Garden 'structure'

We added this little fence to our patio/waterfall area to create a structured garden room.  We were surprised at how much it improved the setting.  It is the first part of our garden that...

Unidentified plant

I'd like some help identifying this plant.  It is quite large, and the leaves are split.  The plant is quite large, at least 36", and the flowers are really not that attractive, but I would...

leopard's bane?

Can anyone identify this plant?  It was given to me by a friend who wasn't sure of the name.  It has suggested that it might be a doronicum, or leopard's bane, but I have been unable to...

Pooh's House

Some of my garden structures are part of a 'neighborhood' in my rock garden.  This is one area, where I created a home for Winnie-the-Pooh.  He has a  soft, lush patch of moss for a...

Very beautiful garden structure

This is the most beautiful garden structure we have seen in our gardens this season.  It is not only beautiful, it is regal.  And, no one does it better than Mother Nature!

Little House in the Woods

This is our newest garden structure.  It is a multi-functional structure where the kids can play, swing on the porch, or hide inside.  We can use it to store our woodland statuary and...

Snow White

This beauty is a big hit in my June garden.  It is an oldie, and was at my house when I moved here 24 years ago. Does anyone know it's name?

Me and my "deer" friend.....

My cat Rudy and her 'deer' friend Bambi, just enjoying the view of the daffodils.

Hail to the Daylilies

This picture was taken on August 10, 2008 in Massachusetts.  New England is like a box of chocolates, "you never know what you're going to get."

Waiting for Spring

This is the picnic area in the woodland section of our park.

An Eagle has Landed

My father made this eagle, and it resides in the section of our park called Rhodie Corner.

Ain't We Got Fun

A whimsical way to enjoy the garden throughout the winter months.

made in the cave

Ice formations in a cave was a surprise we stumbled upon while hiking. A picture tells a thousand words.

Re: Meditative serenity

The Buddha came from our local Home & Garden store. I have seem them in several statuary shops, but this is the only time I saw them in red. They really stand out among all the greenery. Though it doesn't show in this picture, there is a small curved cement bench facing the Buddha, for moments of meditation. I am actually sitting on the bench while taking the picture. I live in New England.

Re: Tiny Beauty

Hi lovemyhubby: we have just over 2 acres, all gardens or woodlands with paths. Yes, we do maintain the whole thing! We typically spend 5-6 hours a day "playing" in the yard. (We're retired.) No matter what the monthly category, I always have pictures to post. Thanks for noticing.

Re: Don't Judge Me (Or My Plant Picks)!

I'm with you. I think they are beautiful too. I have a Mrs. Cox, and I continually take cuttings from it to make more. I do not care if it blooms, which it rarely does anyway, but I love the foliage. Who needs flowers when you have continuous color? I should investigate more varieties and start a family of them.

Re: What's My Name?

I'm sorry that I don't know the name of this peony. I also have it, and wondered what it's name is. A friend gave it to me many years ago, and it is the highlight of my pond garden in June. I hope someone knows the name and posts it here for both of us.

Re: How to post photos in the gallery

I found the web page for the photo contest to be a bit confusing. I entered my first picture successfully, and it shows up on the contest photo list. Then I entered 4 more pictures, and recently discovered that they are not on the contest gallery list, but only on the member gallery list. I entered my 4 pictures again, making sure they were on the contest list this time. I am wondering how many people entered pictures, thinking the same thing.

I was wondering why there were two photo counts, one showing about 250 entries, and one showing about 110. Now I know. Not all pictures are entered in the contest. Do you think this could be clarified in some fashion to all who entered? I noticed that most of my entries had several 'recommendations', and feel disappointed that those pictures are "on the wrong list". Thanks for your consideration.
