Re: Shop 'Til You Sag at the NWFGS
Billy, Thanks for showing all I missed. The highlites are fabulous so the whole show must have been great. I'm glad you do not have a garden so you have to spread your good stuff liberally in the S.B. area.

The myth that I would like to debunk: Natives do not need to be watered. Wouldn't that be wonderful! Fall planting may help if rains are predictable and corespond with my planting plans but when has that ever happened in So. California? A little H20 is required and I find that the new plants will let you know when.

Billy, Have you any opinion on the invasion of our local landscapes by Stipa tenuissima (Mexican Feather Grass)? Can it be stopped? It seems to be even more agressive than Pennisetum which has taken over stretches of Hwy. 154 plus the Big Island's Kona Coast. (A Sunset editorial suggested banning it but in the next issue They pictured a garden full of it.)

Great essay Billy! You have artists eye which shows in your photos. I lived next to Strawberry Canyon for 4 years, (in an earlier life). I wasn't interested in plants then, just survival. Thanks for opening my eyes to the need for a trip to Bazerkley.

My front garden is a perfect demonstration of extreme itis. Very colorfull and full of accidental compositions. It has been said, "gardening is editing." But what to do when you can't stand to throw out any plant? Any suggestions?

Billy, How about a picture of SBBG meadow in summer or fall to show the beauty of the Garden in the dry. (Maybe not right now with the edges toasted from the Jesusita Fire). The green-wet season is usually so brief here but native beauty lasts all year long.

My theory is that these upsetting worms are the alien ones that are known for destroying hundreds of years of accumulated leaf mould in hardwood forests of the Right Coast. Perhaps if you could find some of the less agressive native earthworms you could form the relationship with them GardenWiseGuy reccomends????
