Gorgeous trees! I only have a couple Jap. maples because I don't have much shade, mostly full sun. I love the intense color they have, especially Katsura. Your loropetalum also seems to have day-glow colors. Lovely!

What I like about the gate is how it frames the lovely stone path. The moss between the stones is so soothing, and I know how hard it is to keep that weed free, so well done!

deer spray does keep them off the hosta, a bit of work, but well worth it.
posted: 6:07 am on January 2ndmy resolution is to grow salad greens this year. I grow everything else, but never seem to find the right spot or start early enough. And then I spend $5 a bag for the greens when I could grow a whole season's worth for $5 of seed. this year it's salad greens!

I love seeing professional and public gardens. They are beautiful and can be appreciated for what they are. Doesn't matter if I can't copy it. I can't copy tropical themes or desert themes either, but I still enjoy viewing them.

I have always found mirrors in the garden to be a delightful "trick" to expand the garden view. This is like a window to another garden room.

Such a nice variety of grasses, good mixture of heights and seedheads. Mine are "blooming" now, and I must say they look better in person than in photos.

In my former house I had a full size mirror mounted on the fence that looked like a doorway through to another garden. Very successful illusion. Regular glass mirror, nothing special.

Just 2 days ago my friend was cutting firewood and had a run in with one of these. One of the large thorns went through his leather glove and all the way straight through his thumb. His wife (a nurse) tried pulling the thorn out with vise grips but it wouldn't budge. He had to go to the doctor to have them cut off the glove and cut open his thumb to remove this thorn. talk about OUCH

The Erie COunty Botanical Gardens in Buffalo has a winter show with an amazing variety of different ivies. Probably a hundred different types, never knew there were so many possibilities.

Great combo! Love the dwarf Hinoki cypress, how does it tolerate the clematis? I would worry that the clematis would be too heavy and shading for it. Have they been growing together long?

This is not an ordinary clematis because it is FRAGRANT! I grow many different varieties of clematis, this is one of the only ones that has a gorgeous sweet scent on summer days. I have it planted right next to my garden bench so I can enjoy the scent.

While it's an interesting look, it seems quite impractical. Uneven, loose stones jutting up at different heights would be very hard to navigate without tripping. Quite a hazard, and on a walkway too! It's nice to try to be artsy, but not at the expense of functionality.

I have been a fan of grass gardens for years. I have been quietly collecting quite a variety of grasses that I grow in my flower beds. (various miscanthus, zebra grasses, fescues,etc) One day I want to make an all grass garden but need to research it more before I take the plunge. This book would be great for that!
