This shrub may be leggy because of a harsh winter or is it natural to shed leaves and flop over? It is about to bloom from between the leaves at the tips (it's mid February in England...

I need this book!

Re: mystery shrub

Thank you Linneaz! This type of euphorbia doesn't grow where I live so I never would have thought of that but you are exactly right!

Re: Need help identifying these plants: Solved

It is most likely a biennial and will bloom this year. Then you will get a definite identification. Seve some seeds it makes or let it drop seeds on the ground. Biennials die after they flower.

Re: City Greener

What you have there with the spotted leaves and above ground bulb is Ledebouria socialis, Silver Squill. It is in the hyacinth family.

Re: Mystery Woodland Plant

PS: let some seeds fall in the woods so you will have a steady supply of some blooming every year. They live only 2 years. If you had flowers this plant was 2 years old.

Re: Mystery Woodland Plant

Looks like "Silver Dollar Plant" or "Money Plant" Lunaria biennis. If you leave the flower on, the seed capsules are round flat discs; green at first, drying to tan with papery coverings. Gently rub off the papery covers and you have a delicate silver disc, the size of a silver dollar. They are prized for dried flwoer arranging. You need to recognize the young plants so you can let them grow till the second year when they bloom, and don't be tempted to pick the pretty flowers or you won't have silver dollars.

Re: this plant is taking over

You mentioned it's not mint. If there are herbs in the area it could be marjoram or oregano.
