August 2011
A friend told us last night that he would venture to bet we have created one of the top 10 Urban Gardens in the entire nation! You be the judge! I'll post a few more taken August 21st.
Our "Pond" Room
This is our front outdoor dining room. Also known as our breakfast room. It overlooks our 3,000 gallon Koi pond and waterfalls. In the early summer we harvest fresh strawberries from around the berm...
Key West Meets Buffalo NY
I concieved this outdoor entertaining structure 3 years ago following a very damaging October storm that decimated over 90% of the trees in Buffalo NY. It is now the only shade we have in the yard. I...
Bird Avenue Totem
This reclaimed 24 ft. high boat dock piling anchors the front corner of my yard on Bird. Ave. in Buffalo NY. I found the piece while scrounging the lake Erie shoreline for driftwood 10 years ago.
A Fence Full of Color
What was once 60 ft. of Privet Hedge is now 60 ft. of color and additional gardens. We have 16 hay racks and terracotta pots on this fence and an additional 6 post top planters. We always make this...
A Delicate Balance
This is year # 2 using this really fun configuration of terracotta pots. We found this plan online and it originally called for only 4 pots but since we always try to do things better and bigger in...
Cascading Front Entrance
This is a collection of 3 large matching glazed square pots and 1 smaller glazed bowl. I try to create a different look every year to welcome all visitors to our home. In past years I would use the...
Frozen Solitude
There is something very special about the winter garden as it rests through its frozen slumber!
Late September Glory
This is an overview of our Urban double lot shot from the front corner looking towards the back. We have 3 distinct outdoor living rooms plus our large Tiki bar in the back corner of the yard that...

Balloon Flower. Platycodon grandiflorus. Pretty sure!

Here in balmy Buffalo NY we have it growing in 2 locations. Containment has not been an issue as the soil is fairly dry in both areas. I think our growing zone also has a good deal to do with the lack of aggressiveness!

Next time you must "belly" up to our Tiki bar for a tropical cocktail.
