Rochelle Barozzi, Las vegas, NV, USmember
Artist, Designer and avid gardener since my parents made me pick weeds with a butter knife.
I grew up in Seattle, where all is green and beautiful. Hubby took a job in Las Vegas NV 3 years ago. I have been learning how NOT to do a desert landscape( not that there is anything wrong with that). I want color and green, it can be done in the desert, just ask my neighbors, they didn't think it could be done.

Re: Why Are You Working So Hard? Blow Up Your Rototiller
I so agree Billy.
posted: 5:05 pm on September 14thI spent a huge amount of store bought soil, to try and "grow what ever I wanted" in the soil of Las Vegas. Yeah, didn't work. I studied all winter so I could make a garden of what grows naturally, and what a pleasure it was! Working with Mama Nature is so much better and more pleasing to the eye!

Excellant article!

They are getting to know me now...I don't know if that is a good thing though...
Re: Part I -- When The Well Runs Dry
From growing up in Seattle where there is a plethora of water to be had, to the Las Vegas desert has been a huge learning experiance for me.
posted: 12:26 pm on July 10thI want a lush beautiful green garden of the past, but my neighbors insist on growing a lush garden of rocks. Pretty rocks they are no doubt, placed very nicely. I'm sure they paid a lot for some of them.
But it just aint me.
So I have dedicated myself to having the garden that will grow here, I set the alarm (or the dogs wake me up) and turn on the soaker hose, and hand wand my garden anywhere from 4am to 5am.
Things are working out nicely!
I am happy to say that we have cooled down this week from 109 to 106.

Re: Flowers From A Bad Sci-Fi Flick
We have a lot of Puya planted in Vegas, but I have never seen it bloom! Does it take a few years to bloom? We also have a plethora of artificial "grass" around here too. It is interesting to see them vacuum/brush it around the casino's.
