I was also surprised to see them growing in Ithaca, NY. Not sure about the hardiness zone, but they are sold at commercial establishments here. I do know they do not do well in the Caroga Lake area, which is higher elevation.
posted: 10:20 am on November 16thLotus definitely have leaves. The first leaf comes up in May/June and the larger one June/July. These are not the same leaves as a pond lily. Lotus grow up to 5' above the water.
