A perennial gardener since childhood -- inherited the gene from my mom and dad. Deer down from the mountain next door (a little, suburban NJ mountain) keep me from braving more edible fare. Over the years, I've gone from plant collector to beginning student of design and its effects, primarily by the touch-and-feel, aka the plant-and-replant, method.

Re: Win a copy of Designer Plant Combinations!
I love the permission to plagiarize. After shying away from deliberate design schemes for many years, I've realized that even a smallish garden can benefit from subtle planning that guides a visitor (or a gardener) through it and around it. The few combinations here are so seductive.
