Great write up and summary. The plant with the purple berries is Callicarpa americana, aka Beautyberry. There is also a Callicarpa dichotoma for those of us in zone 5 to enjoy.

Hey Billy! My biggest design problem is that I also have a vegetable garden so I seem to automatically plant in straight lines elsewhere in the garden, 'cuz that's what we do in the vegetable garden - straight lines!

I'm in Indiana and keep my night blooming cereus inside year around. It's a passalong plant I got it from my Dad, who got it from a friend of the family. It's easy to root cuttings from it, but it takes awhile to get to flowering size, especially indoors.
