I wonder if this could be a photo of a delphinium of some sort? The buds and the leaves look like they could be in the larkspur/delphinium family. A picture of the blossoms from the side or the back would help by showing whether they have spurs...

I don't think the blossom looks like any of the Barlowsn nor does it look like the typical aquilegia. I suggest Aquilegia vulgaris (a.k.a. European Columbine European Crowfoot, Granny's Bonnet).
