‘Bailey Compact’ American cranberry bush

Viburnum trilobum ‘Bailey Compact’

vy-BURN-um try-LOW-bum Audio

This low-key shrub is perfect for the back of a border, where its dense form will create a backdrop for showier summer plants. Come fall, however, it stands out with deep burgundy foliage and large, bright red berries. Birds don’t like the fruit, so the berries often persist well into winter. ‘Bailey Compact’ is a dwarf version of this normally 20-foot-tall shrub.

Young plants will not flower (and, thus, no fruit). New growth is tinged with red, however, so there is more to the show than amazing fall color.

Noteworthy CharacteristicsNew growth is tinged with red. Extremely showy fall color and long-lasting fruit. Compact growth.

CareProvide full sun to partial shade and average soil.
