This species has deeply divided, fan-shaped leaves of blue-green to 3 feet across. It bears ivory blossoms on 6-foot-long panicles in summer. It may be shoot-hardy to Zone 6 with a deep layer of mulch. 
 Noteworthy characteristics: Sabal palms hail from low-lying, tropical forests of the West Indies and from southern North America to northern South America. They bear fan-shaped leaves and panicles made up of three-petaled blossoms. In nature, the old leaves fall and crowd the base of the palms. 
 Care: Indoors, grow in bright, indirect light; mist often in summer. Outdoors, grow in well-drained, moist soil in full sun with shade at midday.
 Propagation: Sow seed in spring.
 Problems: Butt rot, false smut, tar spot, manganese deficiency, fungal leaf spots, spider mites, scale insects.
