This clumping perennial has triangular, strongly flavored, crinkly leaves. Its bright green foliage livens up any garden.
 Noteworthy characteristics: Great foliage plant or use as a groundcover. Edible leaves. Usually grown as an annual, since leaves are coarser in its second year. It is a host plant for black swallowtail butterfly larvae.
 Care: Provide full sun to part shade and moist but well-drained soil.
 Propagation: Sow seed in situ from spring to late summer. Germination is slow and erratic.

Woolly thyme—the wooliest of all thymes—forms a dense ground-covering mat of tiny, densely hairy leaves. The foliage has barely any fragrance and is unsuitable for culinary use. In summer, tiny pink tubular flowers appear. Plants grow to only one inch or so in height and spread to about a foot across.
