Cinnamon fern is a wonderful large scale native fern for moist areas in the garden. My oldest cinnamon ferns grew to almost chest height this summer in the midst of our multi-year drought. Other ferns that grow happily with Cinnamon fern include Royal fern, New York fern, Christmas fern, Northern Maidenhair fern, all native ferns. Summer perennials that I grow among these ferns include Cardinal flower, Turtle head, Ironweed, and Turk's head lily. Early spring companions include Foam flower, Crested Iris, Galax, and Trilliums. All of the above perennials are also native.
