Hibiscus moscheutos is a very attractive plant with very few cultural problems to prevent it from blooming beautifully. There are many cultivars coming onto the market and blooms on some exceed 10 inches around. The 'Luna' strain is less than 3 feet tall if standard plants are too large for a smaller garden. Since they need good warmth before they begin to mature, flowering is in later summer [my plants begin to bloom in late July in Zone 7]. Once blooming begins, the display is continuous and persists until cool late-season. Colours range from white through pinks and reds to violets and deep purple. Some stem removal from the ground is useful in maintaining reasonable size as the plant matures.
