The genus Laburnum contains two species of deciduous trees grown for their profuse, dangling clusters of pea-like flowers in late spring and early summer, giving the effect of a yellow Wisteria. Grow as an eye-catching specimen or plant several in a small grove.
Noteworthy characteristics: Abundant, pendent, pea-like yellow flowers. All parts of Laburnum are highly toxic if eaten.
Care: Site in full sun in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Prune when dormant by removing any branches that cross or grow at unbecoming angles.
Propagation: Sow seed in a cold frame in autumn, graft in late winter, or bud in summer.

Dense clusters of pendulous yellow flowers dangle from spreading branches in late spring. Leaves are dark green. Smooth green bark adds some winter interest.
