Like an open jar of marmalade, the maple-shaped leaves of this heuchera are pale orange but also include shades of honey, amber, and even pale green. Some of the leaves are bathed in a single color, while others are a fusion of hues. The summertime flower spikes are reddish brown and can lend cut-flower arrangements a contemporary look.

Heucheras have undergone a breeding revolution in the last decade, with dozens of new cultivars appearing in many combinations of foliage color. While all are pleasing foliage plants, the lighter-colored varieties, with leaves in the amber-to-gold range, seem better adapted to shade. The most popular of these shade-loving varieties is Dolce® Key Lime Pie, with bright gold–chartreuse leaves. This evergreen gem prefers excellent drainage and will light up a dark, shady area.

Rosettes of evergreen, leathery, heart-shaped leaves emerge marbled and veined with brown, maturing to deep green with copper-green shading. In summer, spikes of tiny greenish white flowers are held aloft on stalks up to 3 feet tall.
