Deutzia crenata var. nakaiana 'Nikko'

Deutzia are low-maintenance shrubs from the Himalayas. They provide ample structure in mixed or shrub borders. Their masses of flowers bloom for weeks from mid-spring to midsummer, and are often fragrant. 

Noteworthy CharacteristicsPendulous clusters of 5-petaled pink or white flowers. Some species have attractive, peeling bark.

CareGrow in moderately fertile and moist soil in full sun. Periodic thinning of branches will maintain the arching forms.

PropagationSow seed in a cold frame in fall; take softwood cuttings in summer, and hardwood cuttings in fall.

ProblemsFungal leaf spots.
