The small subshrubs and perennials of the genus Angelonia originate in damp savannas in tropical and subtropical Central and South America. Their 2-lipped flowers make a colorful floral color accent in summer. 
Noteworthy characteristics: Where not hardy, grow as a bedding annual or container plant. Container plants are best discarded after flowering.
Care: Moist, well-drained, fertile soil in full sun.
Propagation: Sow seed in spring.
Problems: Prone to aphids and powdery mildew.
