Botanical Name: Fuchsia magellanica 'Riccartonii' FEW-shah maj-el-LAN-ih-kah Common Name: Fuchsia Synonyms: 'Magical Gold' Genus: Fuchsia
This cultivar has dark green leaves with a faint bronze sheen. Its narrow, dangling, red and purple flowers bloom throughout the season.
 Noteworthy characteristics: Performs well in containers or as a hedge in frost-free regions.
 Care: Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full morning sun to partial afternoon shade. Prune plants back to 12 to 18 inches in late winter to produce fresh foliage. May survive a zone colder if it is given an east-northeastern exposure, planted deeply, and mulched over the winter.
 Propagation: Sow seed in spring; root softwood cuttings in spring, and semi-ripe cuttings in late summer with bottom heat.
 Problems: Spider mites, scale, thrips, whiteflies, fuchsia gall mite, aphids, root-knot nematodes, rust, gray mold, crown gall, crown and root rots, Southern blight, Verticillium wilt.

This is one of the most widely recognized species of hydrangeas. It boasts a plentiful number of cultivars. This beauty is prized for the unusual qualities of its flowers, which bloom continuously from spring until frost. The single cupped flowers open a honey-yellow, then they become coppery-pink, then watermelon, and finally a rich mahogany. The foliage is reddish purple, disease-resistant, and is evergreen in warm climates. This rose can be treated as a shrub or trained as a climber, reaching 10 feet high and 6 feet wide.
