Botanical Name: Eupatorium 'Phantom' yew-pah-TOR-ee-um Common Name: 'Phantom' Joe Pye weed Genus: Eupatorium

'Phantom' Joe Pye weed is an excellent 3-foot-tall perennial that was bred especially for smaller gardens and mixed containers. Plants have dark green, whorled foliage and handsome lavender to purple flower heads in late summer and fall. The blooms are darker when night temperatures are cool. Joe Pye weed attracts butterflies and other insects.
Care: Prefers full sun, good drainage, and plenty of water and nutrients as it is becoming established. Reduce watering and fertilizing once plants begin to grow vigorously. They are drought tolerant if they are not used to being watered regularly.
Propagation: Stem cuttings.
Problems: Nothing serious, but watch for powdery mildew and rust.
