Light shade in soil with plenty of moisture is a best use for this plant. Contrary to conventional belief, Dicentra spectabilis can grow on through summer, but it has to have three givens - decent soil, attentive, regular irrigation and prompt removal of developing seed pods. It is a nuisance but it can be done.
Lovely, graceful spring to early summer. Under plant with something that will fill in when it eventually turns ugly yellow then drops off. Usually mid july, it leaves a barren void.
