'Blue Bird' is a Pacific Hybrid delphinium grown as an annual or biennial. Its mid-blue flowers have white centers. The flowers are large but short-lived and bloom on tall stems from early summer to midsummer. Grow at the back of a border or in the middle of an island bed. There is nothing quite like delphiniums in the garden.

Noteworthy CharacteristicsLarge blue flowers with white centers on tall stems. All parts are toxic if ingested and foliage may irriate skin.

CareGrow in a sheltered area in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Provide support. Thin shoots for the best flower show. Deadhead regularly.

PropagationStart seed indoors in early spring at 55° F.

ProblemsSlugs, snails, and cyclamen mites are fairly common. Other problems can include powdery mildew, Southern blight, bacterial and fungal spots, gray mold, rots, rust, smuts, and damping off.
