I have nothing but praise for this plant. I started with two, a variegated form and one named 'Ruby'. They performed so well I now have ten, four different varieties; I haven't found the variegated form since. The leaves start in April and they are blooming by June, I remove some of the old flowers in August and they continue blooming until November. We are zone 6b (southern Nova Scotia), some say 7. I used to live in California and I don't imagine they would do well unless in the north maybe San Fran. Summers here are humid with generally cool evenings. My only wish is that they came in more colours.

Actually, I'm Central Coast of California, Sunset zone 17. I've tried Hadspen Blood astrantia in every imaginable microclime, to no avail. It spurts up green and turns brown in a month - no matter where I plant it or what I do. I love the pictures of it in magazines. I'm good with other plants. But this one is definitely the big failure in my garden.
