Botanical Name: Artemisia schmidtiana ar-tem-EE-zsah shmit-ee-AY-nah Common Name: Silvermound Genus: Artemisia
This plant produces a 12-inch-high, symmetrical mound of silver-green, silky-hairy leaves. They make this plant a nice counterpoint to very colorful plants.
Noteworthy characteristics: Silvermound can be used in the same way that dusty miller is used to edge beds or create a calming segue in a bed. Grows in a variety of soils.
Propagation: Sow seed in containers in spring or autumn. Root greenwood cuttings of side shoots in summer.
Problems: White rust, downy mildew, powdery mildew, and a variety of leaf and stem fungal diseases are common.
Height 6 in. to 12 in.
