Botanical Name:
Anemone tomentosa 'Robustissima'
ah-NEM-oh-nee toe-men-TOE-sah
Common Name: Grape-leaf anemone
Genus:
Anemone
This anemone grows 24 to 32 inches tall with single, light violet-pink flowers. It's an extremely robust and vigorous plant that is best suited to naturalizing. It will overwhelm other plants and may become a nuisance in a bed.
Noteworthy characteristics:
Can be weedy or invasive.
Care:
Moist, fertile, humusy soil in sun or partial shade. May need support.
Propagation:
Divide in early spring or after flowering; pot up for a year and replant in spring. Take root cuttings in spring. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame when ripe, but germination may be erratic and lengthy.
Problems:
Caterpillars, slugs, flea beetles. Synchytrium leaf gall, downy mildew, leaf and stem smut, Septoria leaf spot, powdery mildew, and rust are all very common to Anemones, and viruses may also occur.

'Robustissima' might strike fear into the minds of many gardeners, who should take it at its word. If unable to resist its questionable worthiness, it would be prudent to rush out and buy a property of at least an acre in which to place this treasure - preferably in a far, rough corner. I have grown it, but I had lots of land; it's probably not worth the effort.

Have grown this ~4 yrs.in full sun, clay soil. Blossoms late summer/fall, pretty, airy look, pink blossoms on tall (4-5' plants). Spreads by rhizomes and can become invasive in small gardens. Difficult to contain in small area.
