This tall, woody-based perennial is distinguished by its elegant flowers. This cultivar displays the purity of a single, white, open-faced flower with a delicate center ring of golden yellow stamens. Every moment of floral development from bud to seed brings satisfying interest.
 Noteworthy characteristics: Contact with sap may irritate skin. Vigorous grower. Anemones are divided into three main groups. This one belongs to the larger, mostly tall species with fibrous roots, flowering late in the season.
 Care: Provide full sun to part shade and moist but well-drained soil. It performs best in part shade in a sheltered location.
 Propagation: Divide in early spring or autumn, growing on in containers for a year before planting out in spring.
 Problems: Prone to nematodes; susceptible to caterpillars, slugs and flea beetles.

Serbian bellflowers have an easy, undemanding habit. Creating a stream of lavender blue, the 1-inch-diameter star-shaped blossoms bloom reliably from late spring to early fall. The foliage remains evergreen in mild winters and needs to be sheared only once in a while to keep its appearance tidy. 'Blue Waterfall' flows beautifully along bed edges and through rock gardens in full sun to partial shade.

Boltonias are vigorous perennials grown for their sprays of aster-like flowers, which appear above clean, gray-green foliage. Their vigorous nature makes them suitable for naturalizing. They are also great in the border (and for cutting), but will benefit from frequent dividing to keep in bounds, and may be cut back in late spring for more compact plants.

The leaves of this hardy hibiscus are copper-red on top and orange-red underneath. Ruffly white to pale pink flowers, 10 to 12 inches across with a distinct red eye, bloom from midsummer to mid-fall with deadheading. Because the top of 'Kopper King' dies back to the ground in autumn and is late to break dormancy in the spring, interplant it with spring bulbs and overplant it with winter annuals not only to provide year-round color but also to allow the hibiscus to grow undisturbed.
